A New Era: Hi Marley’s Story Continues at Atlantic Wharf
Hi Marley started in April 2017 with a vision to improve claims communication and make insurance more lovable. Since the company’s founding, the industry has faced shifting carrier and policyholder expectations, AI creating new possibilities for how work gets done, and communication becoming increasingly complex and encompassing more people, technology and service providers.
The company evolved alongside these changes, growing to 130+ customers, including 13 of the top 30 carriers. And Hi Marley’s platform has transformed into an intelligent communication platform spanning claims, service and sales, bringing AI and automation into insurance workflows and connecting carriers, policyholders and service providers through one trusted conversation.
“We exist to help insurance protect people, simply, and that hasn’t changed,” said Lauren McCollem, Chief Operating Officer at Hi Marley. “But Hi Marley has entered a new era. As the needs of our customers and their customers evolve, we’re expanding what our platform can do while staying focused on something fundamental: helping carriers create trusted communication experiences for the people they serve.”
The Brand Needed to Evolve Along With the Company
As the company and platform evolved, the brand needed to evolve with them to better reflect the breadth and ambition of where Hi Marley is headed, without losing the qualities customers, employees, and partners already value.
“We spent a lot of time listening. We spoke with our customers, board members and advisors,” said Amy Finn, VP of Brand & Communications at Hi Marley. “And we brought in perspectives from our leadership and employees. We uncovered consistent, recurring themes around humanity, warmth and approachability that people associate with the company. Most importantly, we heard the word ‘trust’ over and over again.”
That feedback helped clarify what needed to remain at the center of the brand as Hi Marley continues to grow. One advisor captured it simply: “The beauty in engineering something well is to make it feel human, and Hi Marley does that.”
“We want the brand to feel as sophisticated as the problems we’re helping our customers solve,” said Amy. “The challenge was figuring out how to reflect the company Hi Marley is becoming, without losing the humanity and trust that have always been part of Hi Marley.”
The refreshed brand is one expression of Hi Marley’s next chapter. It’s also reflected in how the company is investing in its people and how we work together with its new headquarters at Atlantic Wharf.
Hi Marley’s New Home at Atlantic Wharf
Hi Marley is a Boston-built, Boston-based company. The headquarters moved from WeWork in 2017 to 77 Franklin Street in 2019, then to 15,000 square feet at 10 Post Office Square in 2022. Now, with plans to boost headcount by 50 percent this year, Hi Marley has moved its headquarters to 290 Congress Street at Atlantic Wharf.
After touring 14 different properties, the new 45,000+ square-foot space was the only location that checked all the boxes for inspiration, culture, logistics and more.
“This was a deliberate choice about who we want to be and how we want to work together,” said Stefanie Bishop, Chief People Officer at Hi Marley. “It’s powerful to be able to provide a spot with beautiful lighting and gorgeous design so we can do this work together and be more connected to our mission, our purpose, our culture and to each other. This is a pivotal moment and major milestone as we embark on this next chapter and continue to grow and scale.”
A Space that Encourages Collaboration and Growth
Bringing all of Hi Marley’s teams together on one floor, the new office meets each team’s specific needs for how they collaborate. The new headquarters offers European-inspired café workspaces, standing desks, collaboration benches, phone booths, reading nooks, a library for quiet work, and more.
The naturally lit space is thoughtfully designed to reduce noise and distractions. The layout feels airy and creates a welcoming environment for hosting customers, partners, and prospects, while providing room for future growth.
The building also offers a variety of amenities, including rooftop honeybees in partnership with Boston’s Best Bees, a waterfront plaza, an art gallery, and regular tenant socials.
For CEO and Co-Founder Mike Greene, Atlantic Wharf feels different than the others in Hi Marley’s history; it represents the company’s investment in what comes next for its people, its product and the customers it serves.
“This office is a physical representation of what’s ahead,” said Mike. “It reflects the opportunities we have to grow our team, expand what our platform can do and keep solving bigger problems for our customers and the people they protect. It’s exciting to think about where we’ve come, but even more exciting to think about what we can build from here.”
